History of coffee

 

 

The history of coffee is a legend.

A goat herder, Kaldi found his herd become particularly nimble and active after having eaten the leaves and fruits of a plant. He took these magic fruits to some Monks.

The Monks used the fruits to make hot and bitter drink.They found that the more they drank , the more easier for them to take care of prayers. And it also enable them to stay awake in praying. Gabriel offered a little coffee to Mahomet. The drink is so good and miraculous so that the Arab people soon adopt it as their daily drink.

The name of Coffee derives from the Arab word "yahava" indicating all drinks made of plants, including wine. More precisely, coffee, a tasty black drink, as "wine of Arab", was imported by the Venetian merchants at the beginning of the XVII century. The first coffee shops was found in Venice.

Thereafter, in 1683, when the Turkish troops were defeated and fled Vienna, they left behind a great quantity of coffee which they have keeping for one centurie and thir skills to torrefy and to grind coffee. The Austrians, impressed by this drink, opened their first coffee shop.

During the XVIIIieme century, the coffee shops multiplied to thrive in all Europe and to become the place for people to meet, to know, to exchanges of news and stories. It's the palce where one was and always to feel good, and the good place to observe the peoples, their habits, their behaviors...
